Children’s Nutrition & Feeding

Practical Nutrition Support for Children & Families

Feeding children isn’t always straightforward. Fussy eating, sensory challenges, limited food variety, growth concerns and anxiety around mealtimes can make food stressful for both children and their families.

Nadia Fathinia specialises in paediatric nutrition and is an SOS-trained Feeding Therapist, providing practical, family-focused support for babies, children and adolescents. She has particular experience supporting children with feeding difficulties, sensory challenges and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

Nadia’s approach is supportive and individualised, considering each child’s nutrition, development, sensory needs and family circumstances.

Fussy & Selective Eating

It’s common for children to go through periods of fussy eating, but for some families, feeding difficulties can become more persistent. A child may eat only a small range of foods, refuse particular textures, become anxious around unfamiliar foods or find family mealtimes challenging.

Our dietitians can assess your child’s current food intake and help determine whether they are meeting their nutritional needs while providing practical strategies to gradually expand the foods they feel comfortable eating.

The aim isn’t to pressure children to eat. Instead, we work towards creating positive experiences with food and helping children develop confidence at a pace appropriate for them.

Feeding Therapy & Sensory Challenges

Nadia Fathinia is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and SOS-trained Feeding Therapist, with particular experience supporting children with feeding difficulties, sensory challenges and selective eating.

Nadia works with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and other feeding challenges, recognising that eating difficulties can involve much more than simply liking or disliking a particular food.

Support may include exploring food textures, smells, tastes and presentation, introducing unfamiliar foods gradually and developing strategies that families can use at home.

Working Together With Families

Parents and carers play an important role in helping children develop a healthy relationship with food.

Rather than providing a rigid list of foods your child should eat, we work with your family to understand what’s happening at home and develop realistic strategies that fit into everyday life.

Collaborative Feeding Support

Some children benefit from support from several health professionals.

Nadia works collaboratively with other practitioners, including occupational therapists, to support children with more complex feeding needs. This multidisciplinary approach allows feeding, nutrition, sensory and developmental considerations to be addressed together where appropriate.

Supporting Healthy Growth & Development

Good nutrition during childhood helps support growth, development, learning and overall health. If your child eats a limited range of foods or you’re concerned about their growth or nutritional intake, a dietitian can assess what they are currently eating and identify areas that may need additional support.

Our focus is on helping your child receive the nutrition they need while developing a positive and sustainable relationship with food.
